In the 1950s and ‘60s, a new kind of country music exploded out of the honky-tonk bars of Bakersfield, California. In contrast to the smooth, slick Nashville sound, the new music was loud, gritty, rough-edged, and exuberant, built around the twangy sound of the revolutionary Fender Telecaster electric guitar. Buck Owens and Merle Haggard were the artists who brought it to the world.
Bakersfield Band takes its inspiration from that time and place. We play classic country music from Buck, Merle, and a pantheon of great country performers, whose powerful, “Three chords and the Truth” songs still touch our hearts. With strong male and female singers and great instrumentalists, we deliver a great night of memorable music to everyone who hears us.
